Emirates bans pagers and walkie-talkies

Emirates, the largest airline in the United Arab Emirates based in Dubai, has banned pagers and radios on all its flights.

This move follows recent incidents in the Middle East in which numerous pagers and walkie-talkies belonging to Hezbollah fighters exploded in Lebanon. To minimise security risks, Emirates Airlines is now not allowing such devices in either carry-on or checked baggage. There are concerns that tampered with devices may still be in circulation, with explosive devices.

In addition, Emirates is temporarily suspending flights to Iraq and Iran until October 8; flights to Lebanon are cancelled until October 15.
