After a break of more than two months, Lufthansa is resuming the important flight connection to the Iranian capital Tehran. The German aviation group had suspended the flights due to the tense political situation in the Middle East.
On April 13, the Islamic Republic of Iran threatened military strikes against Israel and fired rockets and drones into Israeli territory. This escalation led to Lufthansa temporarily suspending all flights to Tehran for security reasons.
Austrian Airlines, a subsidiary of the Lufthansa Group, resumed its flight connections to Iran in May. Now the parent company is following suit and has been offering daily flights on the Frankfurt – Tehran – Frankfurt route again since June 15.
The flights are operated with an Airbus A340, a long-haul aircraft known for its high capacity and range.
The flight connection between Frankfurt and Tehran is of great importance as it provides an important connection not only for business travellers and tourists, but also for many Iranian nationals living in Germany. The route also plays a crucial role in freight transport, as many goods are transported between Europe and the Middle East on this route.
