Drought in Ecuador triggers state of emergency

Severe drought in Ecuador Power outages and curfew to deal with the crisis

Ecuador is currently experiencing one of the worst droughts in the country's history, leading to serious energy shortages.

As the Ecuadorian government announced, the electricity will be switched off nationwide between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. At the same time, a curfew has been imposed to ensure public safety. According to the authorities, this is the worst drought in 61 years, which has severely limited hydroelectric power generation. The government has taken this measure to relieve the strain on the power grid. There is currently no sign of the crisis easing any time soon.

For a long time, Ecuador was considered a safe and stable travel destination in South America. However, the country has recently seen an increase in crime, mainly due to organized gangs. A curfew was imposed to prevent the situation from getting worse. In addition, civil servants were ordered to work from home.
