Crime in South Africa is increasing. The Foreign Ministry warns of high levels of violent crime, especially in large cities such as Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban.
South Africa has had a problem with increasing crime for years, but robberies are now taking place in broad daylight and in the middle of inner city areas. However, people are already being advised to be more cautious in tourist centers such as the Kruger National Park.
The Austrian Foreign Ministry is already advising people to keep cash, passports and valuables in the hotel safe. Cameras and mobile phones should be displayed as little as possible.
